was a little ambitious and asked michael if we could have breakfast at 9am. he laughed and said, 'we'll see...' and see we did! rolled into the magnificent kitchen complete with huge aga after 10, had a leisurely breakfast chatting with his mother and sister and before we knew it, it was noon. so much for getting an early start! michael gave us wonderful directions to some good walks in the area but my less than wonderful hearing and memory got us wonderfully lost. what we ended up doing i would not ever recommend. saw an elderly couple (because that's my fitness level...) in walking gear near the church and asked if they could point us to a path. and oh boy they did. after walking in circles and battling waist-high stinging nettle and pokey pokey plants, we ended up back at our car. never making it to the village that was a mere 1.5miles away. disgruntled, we drove back to keepers cottage and got lost again, only to find ourselves at the national park michael had directed us to.
determined to redeem our 'walking holiday', we went for a stroll on the proper path through the woods and were rewarded with some good views :) whew!
